Praise to God and congratulations to Atlanta Archbishop Wilton Daniel Gregory on the celebration of his 30th anniversary of his ordination to the eposcopate (30 years a bishop). Today is also the feast of St. Lucy, virgin and martyr. So the red vestments today are quite appropriate.

One time at a celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation Archbishop Gregory asked a young confirmand who chose the name Lucy what she knew about her patron saint. She answered his question and they had a pleasant exchange. The Archbishop disclosed that he was consecrated a bishop on the Feast of St. Lucy. So the young lady asked if he liked Lucy. Everyone over 45 went into howls of laughter when he said, “I LOVE LUCY!”

Thank you, Your Grace, for your vocation, for being my spiritual father, and the leader of our beloved Archdiocese of Atlanta.

Love,

Deacon Tom Gotschall, The Deacon Dad
