St. John the Baptist is so integral to the Advent theme of preparing for Jesus coming and we are treated to two Sunday Gospels each Advent season. There is a richness to our preparing for Jesus birth, our preparing for his public ministry, and our looking forward to Jesus second coming.
Today I consider the reason John the Baptist is in prison and how I consider him not only one of the bravest men of all time for calling out the sin of another but how this translates for us. John is also the greatest examination of conscience coaches of all time.
I pray to St. John the Baptist when I examine my conscience so I can better recognize my sins and how to turn my life more and more to Jesus.
Here is the Gospel of December 10, 2016, the 3rd Sunday of Advent. Matthew 11; 2-11 along with my homily that followed. Oh by the way, for Catholics who may have not made it to Mass on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, this might hurt a bit.
St. John the Baptist, pray for us.
